Lime essential oil – uses and benefits

From all the citrus essential oils my favorite is Lime. Probably because it has such a strong but fresh scent. I find it most uplifting and energizing of all the citrus oils. Added bonus is that it is also a very affordable essential oil.

Uses and benefits

  • Skincare – helpful for acne and dull skin. Lime essential oil has astringent properties which helps with oily, blemished skin. It is also useful for pigmentation and age spots.

  • Respiratory support – colds, asthma and flu can be supported by lime oil due to the anti-viral properties.

  • Weight loss and appetite suppressant due to the high amount of d-limonene in the oil

  • Circulatory support – helpful for varicose veins and chilblains

  • Immune boosting oil

  • Mental alertness. Lime oil is helpful to clear the head especially when you are quite an indecisive person. Helpful to lift your mood, especially when moodiness, frustration and irritability is something that you struggle with.

  • Depression – the anti-depressant properties of lime oil makes it a very useful oil for many who would like to use essential oils to complement their mental health plan.

  • Household cleaner – the purifying properties of lime oil as well as the fresh citrus scent makes it a great cleanser for the home.

Method of extraction – Cold pressed or steam distilled

Blends well with :

Lime oil blends well across the board really.

Other citrus oils such as Bergamot and Grapefruit.

Floral oils such as Lavender and Ylang-ylang.

Warm spicy oils like Black Pepper.

Woody oils like Sandalwood.

Even herbal oils such as Basil oil.

Warning

Cold pressed Lime oil is photo toxic which means if you apply it to your skin and go into the sun you might have an allergic reaction. Wait about 24 hours before going into the sun or just cover the area with clothing.

Steam distilled Lime oil is not photo toxic and is sun safe.

General Safety Information

Do not apply essential oils undiluted topically.

Pregnant women have to consult with a qualified aromatherapist and or midwife and doctor before using essential oils, especially topically.

If you have liver damage, cancer, suffers from epilepsy or other medical problems and take medicine on a regular basis then you have to use essential oils under the guidance of a trained aromatherapist.

Before using essential oils on children you should consult with a qualified aromatherapist.
