Lemon essential oil is one of my favorite oils to use for many reasons. It has such a fresh, uplifting smell. It is a very common essential oil, therefore it is easy to find. Lemon oil is made from the rind of the lemon and that is why it is also not too expensive. Definitely a must have oil in your kit. Well let’s look at some uses and benefits of this humble oil.
Lemon oil – uses and benefits
Cleaning
It is the anti-bacterial, anti-septic and anti-fungal properties that makes lemon oil a great choice for cleaning. Mix ¼ cup of vinegar, ½ cup of water and about 15 drops of Lemon oil. You will need to mix the essential oils with a dispersant first before adding the vinegar and water. Water and oil do not mix that is why you need the dispersant.
Airborne neutralizer
You can diffuse Lemon oil to get rid of unpleasant smells such as cigarette smoke or curries It is the limonene in Lemon oil that gives it that fresh lemony scent.

Anti depressant
Lemon oil is uplifting and refreshes not only the intellect but the heart and mind as well.
Natural immune support
Lemon oil has the ability to stimulate the white corpuscles that defend the body against infections. I personally do not ingest essential oils and to take lemon internally I would much rather squeeze some lemon in water or put a quarter of a lemon with the skin on in a cup of hot water and drink that like a tea. Using Lemon oil topically, diluted off course and in steam inhalations are both very effective. No need to consume essential oils internally.
d-Limonene is anti-inflammatory as well as a powerful antioxidant , that’s why it might give your immune system a boost.
